Eating Locally…

Found a faboo local Italian restaurant that the Wookie and I have been haunting three weeks in a row for a weekend meal – Pasta Lorenzo – in Uniontown, about a half-hour drive away. The pizza is to DIE for and the Buffalo Chicken Alfredo will have you drooling… I am just thinking about it! And don’t get me started on the desserts!

Now I know most of you who read this might be wondering why I’m talking about a local place that most of you will probably never get to visit, much less get to dine at. But I want to try and remind everyone that when the economy takes a downturn it’s not such a bad idea to support your local businesses, and that includes restaurants. The big franchises can afford to take a loss and have their staff standing around; these little places can’t. And they employ local peeps as well as buying local merchandise and produce, so…

… next time you go out for a bite to each, why not check out some small local eatery and give them your hard-earned cash instead of some huge company that really doesn’t care if you’re there or not?

  1. That’s basically what the hubby and I have done for years. We order pizza from a local pizzeria, eat at local restaurants and local brewpubs, etc. We even buy a fair amount of our beer from a local brewery (Great Lakes), wine from local wineries, shop farmer’s markets when available, etc. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that here in Greater Cleveland there actually are a lot of local businesses providing these things. I feel bad for people who live in places where pretty much the only thing going nearby are the chain restaurants and the big-box stores and groceries so they have little choice. And, of course, the powers-that-be in such places then often are in a tizzy wondering why local money isn’t remaining local…

    • oooh… I’d love to find a local beer – I’ve gotten to be quite a fan of Yuengling, a local one here, but not a microbrew.
      besides, it’s too fattening…

      love to be near you!
