In my “WTH” file…

Hospital workers fired for taking photos.

This totally blows my mind. Seriously. Years ago when I worked security in the GTA hospitals there was NO way we would have tolerated anyone taking photographs of the patients, much less putting them online. I’d love to know what reasoning these two idiots had for doing it.

And then I’d make sure they NEVER work in the industry again.

Insert rant here on the glorious world of cell phones being able to do WAY too much other than just take phone calls. And seriously, WHO really needs all those gadgets? Really? Are you feeling that insecure about yourself that you need to have the ability to email, text, surf the web, take photographs and play video games on a screen the size of a postage stamp and that costs more than I probably make in a year when you add up all the extras?

Sometimes being a Luddite ain’t so bad.

BTW, one of the sections in Friedman’s "The World is Flat" book deals with the ability of the public to discern what’s real and what’s not on the Internet. How to tell the difference between rumors, outright lies and propaganda put up there to screw with your minds.

Seems we’re all failing to be able to do so.

Just saying.

*grumps away*

Where the heck is my chocolate-covered Iron Man when I need him!!!

  3. Holy cow. I just got back from sitting in our our yearly HIPAA training session. You mean the hospital only called that into question about the cell phone use? Not about some other violation?

    • it does blow your mind, doesn’t it?
I’d love to hear the reasoning behind this – supposedly according to the article they blocked out the faces and such but “only” put the pics up on a private Myspace page.
sounds sort of morbid to me, personally. You’re posting pics of someone’s who’s injured?
      *shivers*
I have no idea WTH they were thinking. I’m not sure if I want to.
      😦

  5. I actually saw “The World is Flat” at Borders the other day. It looked incredibly interesting….
About the photos thing – yeah, total crap. Some people are twisted.
I wish I had a chocolate-covered Iron Man (oh, the mental images.)
I hope you don’t mind if I friend you? I just saw your Iron Man fics over at Fanfiction.net and I would like to stay updated…they are amazing, by the way.

    • I’d be honored!
btw, the book is a great read – but it’s a *heavy* read, if you get my drift. Not something you’re going to race through.
I’ve also got the audiobook – seven CDs, but if you like your books that way…
      😉
