In Namibia the Herero people have their own version of a vampire called an “Otgiruru”. Usually the returning spirit of a dead sorcerer or shaman, this spirit refused to go into the afterlife and decided instead to build a body to inhabit for the time being.
Usually an Otgiruru takes the shape of a dog, building the canine out of dirt and rocks. It lures its victims near by either resembling a family pet or whining in pain; taking advantage of the kindness of humans. Once close enough the demon will attack and drain the bodies of all blood before moving on.
Strangely enough the Otgiruru is afraid of crowds and will only attack victims who are alone. Therefore, be sure to stay close to friends and family when travelling in Namibia!
