let me point out, before everyone gets all excited, that I’m neither a Bush or Kerry fan. I think both of them are majorly flawed as potential leaders, and Bush certainly has dropped the ball on more than a few occassions.

however, just because of my pro-life stance, I cannot support John Kerry’s blissful ignorance of his Catholic stance where pro-life comes into play – stem cell research and abortion. Bush isn’t clean either; he’s managed to piss me off plenty.

I just wish that politicians everywhere could actually be honest and deal with issues – Chretien led Canada for twenty years after getting in on a lie – that he would remove the Goods and Services Tax which he never did and when called on it, just shrugged and said “Don’t believe everything I tell you.”

and there’s the rub – there actually WAS a court case in Canada where a man sued a politician for failing to keep a promise and the judge ruled that you cannot legally demand that any politician keep his pledges.

now doesn’t that give you a pause? even for a second?

because at this point I don’t believe anything either side is saying – I have no doubt that while Kerry is saying now that he’ll allow medications from Canada to flow across the border that if he wins next week that the border will still be clamping down on drug imports because the big companies that have put so much money into researching and creating these drugs (and don’t get me started on why there’s no cure for cancer but men with sexual dysfunctions have a plethora of drugs to choose from) will not allow him and the government to toss open the doors in blissful ignorance. He may say it, but it’s not going to happen.

ALL politicians lie. Liberal or PC; Democrat or Republican; whatever parties there are in France and Germany – they ALL lie to get into office.

and as soon as they get in, they retract their promises with pleas of “we didn’t know it was THIS bad!” and claim to be getting around to taking care of their debts really soon.

in Canada we waited twenty years for Chretien to keep one promise. He never did.

I think the American people will be waiting almost as long for Kerry and Bush to keep theirs.

  1. That’s why I’m not all that impressed with debates or political ads. Kerry has a voting record. He can lie about it, the republicans can distort it, but it is there. Bush has a record. No matter what people’s opinions about him are, there is a record. I wish people would pay more attention to the records. They would speak for themselves if people would bother to read them.
